For this keyword research feature we decided to investigate the popularity of the most well known SEO personalities.
We identified 29 names which are well known to the SEO industry. This selection was not objective but based on names which were familiar. Please let us know if you think we’ve omitted any important names.
We extracted the Global broad match volumes for each name from AdWords Keyword Tool.
Phrases were organised using our DeepSemantics keyword research tool which makes it a breeze to update keywords lists and filters.
Results
AdWords Keyword tool doesn’t include data for low volume terms so simply showing up at all makes you worthy of the A-list title.
The surprise result is that Michael Gray appears to generate twice as many searches as Matt Cutts. Any good SEO would immediately be suspicious of this result and a quick inspection shows that the name Michael Gray is shared with a football player amongst others so this result should probably be ignored.
All name based research is subject to the same issue except where you’re dealing with unique brand names.
